Who we are and why we were founded?
We are a group of professionals associated with the fields of Navigation and Maritime Safety, Trauma, and Pre-Hospital Medical Emergency.
On October 6, 2015, the harbor entrance of Figueira da Foz was the scene of a tragic shipwreck, due to the proximity to land and the inability of rescue assets and the crew of the trawler Olívia Ribau to perform self-rescue. We wanted to go further, and we were not content with just assigning blame or accepting the lack of life jackets (essential survival equipment) as the sole justification for a drowning.
We wanted to answer the question, “What kills a shipwreck survivor?”
The answer we suggest to this question is framed by six axes, which form the basis of the training we offer to Portuguese commercial fishermen, supplementing the IMO (International Maritime Organization) STCW-F (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Fishing Vessel Personnel) standards.
Our professional experience in the Maritime, Offshore, Hospital and Pre-Hospital Medical Emergency, Rehabilitation Nursing, and Ergonomics sectors culminated in a proposal to create a Professional Training Company with 3 areas of interest:
Survival and Maritime Safety;
Trauma and Medical Emergency;
Industrial Safety.
The company SafetyMar, Formação e Serviços Lda., based in Figueira da Foz, will offer its clients services and innovations for the national market. In our Online Store, we also provide innovative equipment from national and foreign manufacturers for the 3 areas of interest mentioned above.
Our training offers will always include the promotion of a Safety Culture for professional groups, such as Commercial Fishermen and Industrial Workers. We will share guidelines from prominent institutions, such as the ACT (Authority for Working Conditions), DGS (Directorate-General of Health), and IMO (International Maritime Organization), among others.
